Crypto traders often have more data than clarity. A useful crypto trading journal makes it possible to review the decision behind a trade: the setup, volatility, position size, and whether a headline or social post changed the plan.
The portfolio balance never tells the full story. It cannot tell you whether a green trade was a clean setup or a late, oversized chase that happened to work.
The must-have crypto journal fields
Track asset, market, entry, stop, target, leverage if used, planned risk, and session. Add tags for catalyst, volatility, and emotional state. This creates a record you can filter when you want to know which decisions actually helped.
Make FOMO visible
Crypto moves can encourage entries that were never in the plan. Mark trades influenced by urgency or social hype and compare them with planned setups. Our guide to FOMO in trading shows how to turn that feeling into a pause rule.
A practical rule for a missed move
When price runs without you, write one sentence before opening another chart: “What would need to happen for this to become my setup again?” If you cannot answer it, do not turn disappointment into a trade.
